SARASOTA, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A Florida middle school teacher was arrested Friday after deputies say he sexually abused a child multiple times over several years.<\/p>\n
The Sarasota County Sheriff\u2019s Office say they arrested 40-year-old Brian L. Pavluchuk with help from the DeSoto County Sheriff\u2019s Office and the U.S. Marshals Task Force in Fort Myers.<\/p>\n
Investigators say Pavluchuk, who was known to the victim, is accused of sexually abusing the child between 2014 and 2017.<\/p>\n
According to the sheriff\u2019s office, detectives used interviews, witness statements and recorded admissions to establish probable cause for charges including sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation.<\/p>\n
Pavluchuk is currently a teacher at Punta Gorda Middle School.<\/p>\n
Charlotte County Public Schools spokesperson Claudette Smith said the district is aware of the arrest and that Pavluchuk has been placed on administrative leave:<\/p>\n
We are deeply troubled by the arrest made today involving a Charlotte County Public Schools employee. While this matter did not occur within a school setting, we want to be clear that every CCPS employee is held to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity, both on and off campus.”<\/p>\n
The district said it is following established procedures and working with law enforcement as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
