{"id":354056,"date":"2026-07-27T19:53:07","date_gmt":"2026-07-27T19:53:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/354056\/"},"modified":"2026-07-27T19:53:07","modified_gmt":"2026-07-27T19:53:07","slug":"streeter-acclaimed-kitchen-seeks-new-home-after-devastating-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/354056\/","title":{"rendered":"Streeter Acclaimed Kitchen seeks new home after devastating fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A fire Saturday night decimated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile.php?id=100063541922784\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Streeter Acclaimed Kitchen<\/a>, a popular Southern soul food restaurant open only 17 months in the Glynlea community on the Southside.<\/p>\n<p>Owner and chef Johnathan Streeter has started a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gofundme.com\/f\/help-chef-john-rebuild-after-restaurant-fire?attribution_id=sl:d76e8df8-2377-4f73-a4d4-b60c91878f0d&amp;lang=en_US&amp;ts=1785080638&amp;utm_campaign=fp_sharesheet&amp;utm_content=amp20_t1&amp;utm_medium=customer&amp;utm_source=instagram_story\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GoFundMe site<\/a> to help fund a place to start over and keep his staff employed after learning that his Crane Avenue business cannot be rebuilt after the blaze.<\/p>\n<p>The restaurant\u2019s menu included wings, crab cakes, pot roast and smothered pork chops for dine-in and take-out services. He said  he noticed a burning smell Saturday afternoon, then left at 7 p.m. He was called at 9:30 p.m. and told his restaurant was on fire. He said he ultimately learned the cause was an electrical issue.<\/p>\n<p>Posting the next morning on Facebook, Streeter said sometimes no one knows why things happen.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m sitting just thinking like I can\u2019t believe this is happening to me. From selling my first $10 plates four years ago to building my name in catering, to building my name with my restaurant in this city,\u201d Streeter wrote. \u201cA lot of ups and downs in this industry. I\u2019m writing this with tears because it\u2019s been so many times I\u2019ve wanted to give up but can\u2019t. \u2026 I\u2019m praying to the most almighty that everything I worked so hard for isn\u2019t over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Southern soul food spot opened in early 2025 at the end of one of three small retail strip centers at Crane Avenue and Singapore Road. It had a small dining room up front and a big kitchen in back. A rear section, where the damage was concentrated, carried home to-go containers, cleaning supplies and other items, storefront manager Riva Kimbrough told Jacksonville Today <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news4jax.com\/news\/local\/2026\/07\/26\/restaurant-owner-launches-gofundme-after-fire-leaves-southside-business-beyond-repair\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">news partner News4Jax<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Streeter said that the lease on the building runs until 2029, but he hopes to end that and seek out a new site so he can keep his staff \u201csupported,\u201d he wrote on his GoFundMe page.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPayroll and relocation costs are my top priorities right now,\u201d he wrote. \u201cYour support will help me cover these urgent expenses and give us a chance to start fresh. No donation is too big or too small\u2014 I am grateful for every bit of help. Thank you, Duval, for your support and encouragement.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/100063541922784\/videos\/1773537156982493\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook video<\/a> he recorded late Sunday, Streeter said the restaurant was \u201cdoing pretty good, day in and day out, staying pretty busy.\u201d And the business plans to continue catering. Streeter said he and his staff still plan to cater a black tie event in September.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are not done,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are still working.
