<\/p>\nICE made at least three public arrests at airports last week.<\/p>\n
MIAMI \u2014 A Denver-area woman was arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at Miami International Airport on Friday, marking at least the third ICE arrest at a U.S. airport in the past week, according to family members and a friend who confirmed the arrest to 9NEWS.<\/p>\n
ICE has yet to confirm the arrest.<\/p>\n

The woman, who graduated from an Aurora high school, is in her 20s. Her family is formerly from Belarus, and they say she has a work permit through 2030. ICE has said in the past that legal status and work permits are not the same.<\/p>\n
The Miami arrest follows two other recent ICE actions at airports.<\/p>\n
Last Monday, ICE arrested Chantal Alejandra Morales Rojas as she attempted to board a flight from Denver to Oakland, an incident that went viral after cellphone video captured the arrest. ICE said the woman had an expired visa, but her attorneys said the visa had no expiration date and that she has an open immigration application.\u00a0<\/p>\n
In Nashville, a Southwest Airlines flight attendant was arrested last week, which ICE also attributed to an expired visa.<\/p>\n
To put the frequency of these arrests in context, 9NEWS reviewed data from the Deportation Data Project. The group behind the project, from the University of California, Berkeley and UCLA, collects immigration arrest data from the federal government through open records requests. The data currently spans October 2022 to March 2026.<\/p>\n
According to that review, there were 385,000 ICE arrests nationwide from the start of President Trump’s second term in January 2025 through March 2026. Of those, 487, less than one-tenth of one percent, occurred at airports.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Chicago O’Hare International Airport recorded the most airport arrests, the data shows. Denver International Airport was not listed as a location where ICE made arrests prior to March.<\/p>\n
The data is only as good as the information provided by those responsible for inputting the information. While 487 airport arrests were found in those 14 months, it\u2019s possible there are more, if the word \u201cairport\u201d was not included in the data.<\/p>\n
ICE and the Transportation Security Administration both operate under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Earlier this year, during a congressional hearing, Acting TSA Administrator Ha Nguyen McNeill was asked whether TSA shares all passenger information with ICE to check for passengers with deportation orders.<\/p>\n
“We don’t send the information to ICE. We help ICE check against information. And yes, absolutely, we do that. We are supporting the mission of our colleagues at the Department of Homeland Security, and that includes enforcement of immigration laws,” McNeill said.<\/p>\n
Based on the data, under President Biden from October 2022 to Jan. 19, 2025, there were 93 airport ICE arrests out of almost 315,000.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"ICE made at least three public arrests at airports last week.
