July 18Andrew and Tristan Tate were arrested<\/a> by U.S. authorities in Miami after British authorities brought dozens of additional charges against them and announced they would seek extradition.<\/p>\n July 19The lawyer representing Andrew and Tristan Tate, Joseph McBride, claimed in a post<\/a> on X the brothers are in solitary confinement, calling them \u201cpolitical prisoners\u201d and alleging they were imprisoned for \u201cdaring to exercise their First Amendment Rights.\u201d<\/p>\n July 20An unsealed indictment<\/a> detailed new allegations behind the charges, including claims the Tates had choked women, sometimes until they passed out, and raped them, spanning alleged incidents involving four women between 2010 and 2017.<\/p>\n July 20The Tates appeared<\/a> in a Florida court, after which McBride told reporters they would fight extradition, claiming they are \u201cinnocent\u201d while alleging the new charges were politically motivated. <\/p>\n July 23Andrew Tate said in a post<\/a> on X he is being held in a solitary unit under the \u201chighest level of security which exists,\u201d claiming he has no contact with the outside world and his \u201cneighbor is a cannibal who screams throughout the night\u201d\u2014though it\u2019s unclear how he\u2019s posting from jail.<\/p>\n July 23White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the Trump administration would not intervene<\/a> in the Tates\u2019 extradition process (extraditions must be approved by the Department of State). <\/p>\n July 23Rep. They are not required to attend, according to a court filing, and the Associated Press<\/a> reported they will likely not be there. The court is expected to work out a schedule for the extradition process at Monday\u2019s hearing, including deadlines for court filings and a date for a formal extradition hearing. <\/p>\n What Do We Know About The Tates\u2019 New Charges?<\/p>\n British authorities announced over the weekend they had brought 38 new charges<\/a> against the Tate brothers\u201432 for Andrew and six for Tristan\u2014adding to the 21 combined charges both brothers already faced. Among Andrew Tate\u2019s new charges are seven counts of rape, three counts of sex trafficking, three counts of assault and 19 charges related to child and extreme pornography. Tristan Tate\u2019s new charges include one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three sex trafficking counts. The Crown Prosecution Service said it would seek the Tates\u2019 extradition to the United Kingdom to prosecute the 59 total charges. McBride has claimed the Tates are innocent, and he has accused the \u201cdespotic\u201d British government of seeking to \u201cbury them in a foreign prison for the rest of their lives.\u201d McBride has repeatedly called the charges politically motivated, suggesting<\/a> earlier this week the charges \u201chad a lot to do with\u201d former U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stepping down, also noting the charges were announced shortly after the Tates visited \u201cfriends in Washington, D.C.\u201d<\/p>\n What Do We Know About The Tates\u2019 Ties To Trump?<\/p>\n The Tates, who are fervent Trump supporters, appear to have numerous ties to the Trump family, particularly Trump\u2019s youngest son Barron. The New York Times<\/a> reported last year that Barron Trump and Andrew Tate had cultivated a relationship while Trump was campaigning for the presidency in 2024, as part of his outreach to influencers to win over young male voters. The Times reported Andrew Tate and Barron Trump had met over Zoom and discussed their \u201cshared belief that the Romanian criminal case was an effort to silence the Tates.\u201d The Times reported Tate called Barron Trump after the assassination attempt on his father, later telling reporters: \u201cI\u2019m very close to the Trump family. I look forward to, once I am free, being with Donald Trump in person and reminding him that he\u2019s a bulletproof badass.\u201d McBride told the Times its reporting about Tate\u2019s relationship with Barron Trump is \u201cfake news.\u201d After Ansari announced she had urged the House Oversight Committee to investigate Tate\u2019s relationship with Barron Trump, McBride claimed<\/a> on X the request is evidence Tate\u2019s charges are \u201cpolitical.\u201d \u201cI told you they were coming for Trump next,\u201d McBride said. Other members of the Trump family have previously voiced support for the Tates, including Donald Jr., who called<\/a> it \u201cabsolute insanity\u201d when the Tates were detained in Romania in 2023. <\/p>\n What Are The Tates\u2019 Allies Saying About Their Charges?<\/p>\n Some of the Tates\u2019 allies on the right appear to have backed off from publicly supporting them. Alina Habba, a lawyer whose appointment as acting U.S. attorney was ruled unlawful last year, previously told Tate she was a \u201cbig fan,\u201d but after the Tates were arrested on Saturday, she did not return their representative\u2019s call, the New York Times<\/a> reported. Members of the Trump family have not commented on the case, aside from Leavitt saying Trump will not intervene. Conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has previously backed the Tates, has remained silent, while Tucker Carlson told the Times he believes the Tates were arrested because they \u201ccriticized Israel.\u201d But Nick Fuentes, a far-right commentator who has advocated white supremacy and denied the Holocaust, took to X earlier this week to declare<\/a>: \u201cFREE ANDREW AND TRISTAN TATE.\u201d In another post<\/a>, Fuentes said it would be a \u201chumiliation for the United States to allow the UK to extradite Andrew and Tristan Tate, two American citizens, over trumped up \u2018Me Too\u2019 charges.\u201d<\/p>\n key background<\/p>\n The Tates, influencers considered part of the \u201cmanosphere,\u201d have been the subject of charges and investigations spanning the United States, United Kingdom and Romania.
