Dangerous heat will continue across Northwest Florida through at least the middle of the week, with Tuesday expected to be the hottest day. <\/p>\n
A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 8 p.m. Monday for the western Florida Panhandle, and an Extreme Heat Warning will be in effect from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday for coastal Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties. Inland areas will remain under a Heat Advisory on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Afternoon temperatures will climb into the upper 90s to near 100 degrees, but the humidity will make it feel much hotter. Heat index values are expected to range from 108 to 112 degrees across most of the area, while locations along the immediate coast could see “feels-like” temperatures of 113 degrees or higher. Warm overnight temperatures in the upper 70s will provide little relief, increasing the risk of heat-related illness for anyone spending long periods outdoors or without access to air conditioning.<\/p>\n
If you have to be outside, drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning, and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day. Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle, and be sure to check on elderly neighbors, family members, and others who may be more vulnerable to the heat.<\/p>\n
The good news is that some relief is on the way later this week. <\/p>\n
Rain and thunderstorm chances will increase beginning Wednesday and continue into the weekend as a wetter weather pattern develops across the Gulf Coast. The additional clouds and rainfall will help bring temperatures down closer to normal, with highs returning to the lower and middle 90s.<\/p>\n
