ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Winter is gradually getting closer, and Florida is already starting to feel the chill.<\/p>\n

Next week, Central Florida could even see temperatures all the way down in the 30s<\/a>.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why Florida Power & Light has released a list of tips to keep your energy bill down during the season.<\/p>\n

According to the company\u2019s guide, homeowners should set their thermostats to 68\u00b0 or lower in the winter, with their fans set to \u201cAuto.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSave 5% on monthly heating costs for each degree you turn it down,\u201d the guide notes.<\/p>\n

But FPL also offered other suggestions<\/a> to get the most out of your energy:<\/p>\n

Avoid raising your thermostat by more than two degrees at a time if you have a central electric-based heating system to prevent accidentally turning on auxiliary heat. Using auxiliary heat for more than 12 hours a day can add up to $15 per day on your energy bill.<\/p>\n

Use electric blankets or space heaters\u00a0to keep you warm in small areas. Always turn it off before you leave the room and remember to keep children and pets at least three feet away. Using a space heater costs approximately $3 per day.<\/p>\n

Reverse the setting on your ceiling fan\u00a0to push warmer air down to the floor level, maximizing heat circulation.<\/p>\n

Electric blankets\u00a0are a great way to stay warm at night without heating your entire home.<\/p>\n

Use natural sunlight\u00a0by opening drapes on sunny days to let in warmth; close them at night to retain heat.<\/p>\n

Seal your home\u00a0to keep cold air out by closing garage doors and sealing attic or foundation vents (open these in warm weather).<\/p>\n

Clear airways\u00a0to ensure heating outlets and return air registers are unobstructed by furniture or drapes.<\/p>\n

Last year, FPL Lead Energy Solutions Specialist Laura Blair also told News 6<\/a> that homeowners can seal off cracks in their homes to keep warm air from escaping.<\/p>\n
