JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 The Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office is asking for the public\u2019s help identifying the person responsible for abandoning a dog in a crate outside a local church \u2014 leaving it without food or water for three days.<\/p>\n
JSOs says on July 1, a vehicle pulled into a parking space at a church off Philips Highway, dropped a crate containing a dog out of the car and drove off. Three days later, a church employee discovered the animal.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was clear the dog had been left without food or water; it was covered in its own feces,\u201d the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office said.<\/p>\n
An animal cruelty exam revealed the dog was extremely malnourished. It is now undergoing extensive recovery.\\<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are many options for rehoming dogs, but this is not one of them,\u201d officials said. \u201cWe\u2019re actively searching for the person responsible for leaving this dog in this condition.\u201d<\/p>\n
Anyone who recognizes the dog, knows who owns the vehicle or has any details that could lead to an arrest is asked to call the Jacksonville Sheriff\u2019s Office at 904-630-0500. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through First Coast Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.<\/p>\n
