TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Construction is in full swing at Griffin Middle School in Tallahassee as the first day of school is fast approaching. <\/p>\n
On Monday, crews were working on the school\u2019s new gym, weight room, locker rooms and band room.<\/p>\n
The school\u2019s cafeteria was redone last year, the gym is set to be finished in January, and construction of a new classroom wing will begin after that. <\/p>\n
Work on the new gym won\u2019t be done when school starts August 12th, but it\u2019ll be phased in as soon as it\u2019s finished. <\/p>\n
\u201cWhat we\u2019ll do is build a new building and knock down the old one,\u201d LCS spokesperson, Chris Petley said. \u201cThat way, they can stay where they are and transition to the new one. Right here, we\u2019ll be opening the gym in January and after that gets done, we\u2019ll soon start on demolishing the old gym so students won\u2019t be impacted as much.\u201d <\/p>\n
The parent drop of lane at Griffin Middle will be repaved in time for the start of school so drop off along Alabama Street will remain the same. <\/p>\n
Students and parents at Raa Middle School can also expect to navigate construction this fall as work begins on a new cafeteria, gym and performing arts center there. <\/p>\n
