BALDWIN, Fla. \u2014 A teacher accused of an inappropriate relationship with a student pleaded not guilty Tuesday morning to charges he\u2019s facing in Duval County court.<\/p>\n
Action News Jax told you in May when James Mulvey, who taught at Baldwin Middle-Senior High School, was arrested<\/a> on a charge of Offenses Against Students by Authority Figures.<\/p>\n >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<<<\/a><\/p>\n Court records show Mulvey is now facing a charge of Unlawful Use of a Two-Way Communications Device. He pleaded not guilty to both charges.<\/p>\n Action News Jax also told you in May<\/a> about the \u201cMulvey files,\u201d reportedly by a student at the school. Duval County Public Schools did not verify the authenticity of the emails.<\/p>\n The emails, which appear to be sent between district-issued school accounts, show conversations spanning from May 13 through May 19. In the messages, Mulvey appears to send birthday wishes to the student, while other exchanges show the student venting about her relationship with her mother.<\/p>\n [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/a>] <\/p>\n Throughout the documents, the student repeatedly refers to Mulvey as \u201cdad,\u201d while Mulvey refers to the student as \u201cdaughter.\u201d The messages also contain multiple exchanges of \u201cI love you.\u201d<\/p>\n The first page of the files describes Mulvey as a \u201cfather figure\u201d during his time at the high school.<\/p>\n In June, Action News Jax told you about the arrest<\/a> of Baldwin Middle-Senior High School Principal Michael Townsend on a charge of child abuse. <\/p>\n Townsend\u2019s arrest warrant<\/a> details several instances when he was made aware of the inappropriate behavior between Mulvey and one of his students.<\/p>\n Students said Townsend \u201cclaimed to have already handled the situation.\u201d<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n However, when investigators spoke with the victim\u2019s mother, she told them that Townsend \u201cnever contacted her and that she had never personally spoken with Mulvey.\u201d<\/p>\n Duval County court records show that Townsend entered a plea of not guilty on July 1.
