Olympic track star Sha’Carri Richardson takes plea deal in Florida super-speeder case<\/p>\n

Olympic track star Sha’Carri Richardson<\/a> has accepted a plea deal in her super-speeding
case in Central Florida. <\/p>\n

She was pulled over in Orange County earlier this year on State Road 429 near Stoneybrook Parkway after deputies clocked her going 104 miles per hour. She was 25 at the time. <\/p>\n

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said Richardson was ‘dangerously tailgating’ and traveling across lanes to pass other motorists.<\/p>\n

She was booked into the Orange County jail and charged with dangerous excessive speeding of 100 mph or more, according to the arrest report.<\/p>\n

Richardson posted the $500 bond and was released from jail.<\/p>\n

As part of the plea deal, Richardson must pay fines and take an aggressive driving course.<\/p>\n

Super speeder law<\/p>\n

Florida’s super speeder law <\/a>went into effect in 2025, aimed at getting high-speed drivers off the road.<\/p>\n

The law targets drivers going 50 mph over the posted speed limit or over 100 mph on any roadway.<\/p>\n

Richardson’s past<\/p>\n

In 2021, Richardson was disqualified from the Tokyo Olympics after testing positive for THC during a post-race drug test, leading to a 30-day suspension.<\/p>\n

Her absence during the Tokyo Olympics reignited the debate over the criminalization of marijuana, given its growing acceptance and legalization in multiple states.<\/p>\n

Richardson competed and won the 100-meter at the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championships.<\/p>\n
