ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 An autopsy report has finally been released after a Delta Air Lines staff member died while on the job<\/a> at Orlando International Airport back in May.<\/p>\n

Months later, the Medical Examiner\u2019s report shows the worker \u2014 identified as Daniel Maldonado, 49 \u2014 died from \u201cmultiple blunt impact injuries,\u201d and his death was ruled an accident.<\/p>\n

While the report doesn\u2019t specify the exact circumstances surrounding Maldonado\u2019s death, it does mention details of the injuries he suffered.<\/p>\n

Head and neck injuries included:<\/p>\n

Abrasions and a laceration near the right ear<\/p>\n

Bleeding beneath the scalp and within\/around the brain (including subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhages)<\/p>\n

A\u00a0pontomedullary laceration\u00a0(injury at the brainstem region)<\/p>\n

Torso injuries included:<\/p>\n

Extensive abrasions, bruising, and lacerations<\/p>\n

Severe spinal trauma\u00a0involving fractures of the T3\u2013T5 vertebrae, with the spinal cord and aorta\u00a0transected at T4<\/p>\n

Multiple displaced rib fractures<\/p>\n

Lacerations to internal organs including the\u00a0lungs, liver, and spleen<\/p>\n

Blood in the chest and abdomen cavities (hemothorax and hemoperitoneum)<\/p>\n

Extremity injuries included:<\/p>\n

An\u00a0open fracture of the left humerus<\/p>\n

Multiple abrasions and contusions to arms and leg<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Delta family is heartbroken at the loss of a team member while on the job at Orlando International Airport on the evening of May 7,\u201d the airline said in a statement shortly after news broke of Maldonado\u2019s death. \u201cWe are focused on extending our full support to family and taking care of our Orlando team during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Delta noted that safety is the airline\u2019s top core value. <\/p>\n

At the time, Orlando police said they were conducting a death investigation inside the airside terminal, though few other details about the case have been released so far.<\/p>\n
