TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – \u201cDOGust 1st\u201d is recognized each year on August 1st as a way to celebrate the birthdays of shelter dogs, whose birthdays are usually unknown.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t actually know their birthdays but we\u2019re celebrating anyway,\u201d the Animal Shelter Foundation\u2019s Kate MacFall said as an adoptable dog named Wiley played with a stuffed lobster at her feet. \u201dWe are hoping a lot of people in the community come out and meet their new family member.”<\/p>\n

To celebrate DOGust 1st, the Tallahassee Animal Service Center will be waiving adoption fees for adult dogs and cats this Saturday between noon and 5 p.m.<\/p>\n

Perhaps some of the dogs recently featured on Furry Friday – or those we\u2019re featuring today – will be adopted then!<\/p>\n

Furry Friday is a weekly collaboration between WCTV and the Tallahassee Animal Service Center designed to get dogs out of their kennels and into the spotlight in hopes of helping them find fur-ever homes, faster.<\/p>\n

Here are the dogs we are featuring this week:<\/p>\n

MEET CORNELIUS\"CorneliusCornelius has a colorful, fun coat with a colorful, fun personality to match!(WCTV)<\/p>\n

Meet Cornelius!<\/p>\n

This cool cat with the cool coat is a playful, loving, people pleaser!<\/p>\n

Cornelius is family friendly and his last family did a great job of teaching him to be a polite pup. Dole out a few treats and he will gladly show you how he can sit, stay, lay down and more!<\/p>\n

Cornelius is labrador retriever\/catahoula leopard hound mix who only wound up at the shelter because of his previous owner\u2019s allergies. <\/p>\n

Cornelius is friendly and fun and would make a perfect addition to an active, affectionate family. Come check out his easygoing personality and boyish good looks at the shelter this weekend!<\/p>\n

MEET SMORE\"SmoreSmore is a snuggle bug who is seeking a lifetime of love, laps … and belly rubs!(WCTV)<\/p>\n

Sweet, gooey Smore!<\/p>\n

This Siberian Husky sports one brown, one blue eye and has a knack for seeking out belly rubs!<\/p>\n

Smore came in as a stray with her best friend Marshmellow and both are sweet, gentle and petite.<\/p>\n

Smore enjoyed stretching out in the cool green grass and exploring all the sights, sounds and smells the trails of Tom Brown Park had to offer. <\/p>\n

Smore is a snuggle bug who is seeking a lifetime of love and laps!<\/p>\n

Marshmellow came in as a stray with her best friend Smore and both are sweet, gentle and petite.<\/p>\n

No wonder she has \u201cmellow\u201d in her name – she\u2019ll nuzzle you to ask for more head scratches and belly rubs and thoroughly enjoys stretching out in the tall green grass at your feet. <\/p>\n

MEET JOEY\"JoeyJoey has two speeds – as fast as his little legs can carry him – and yes, please, carry him!(WCTV)<\/p>\n

This pint size pup always has a smile on his face!<\/p>\n

Joey loves being held like a baby, giving thank you kisses, and closing his eyes in pure bliss. <\/p>\n

This beagle mix is ready to bounce along at your side … or in your arms!<\/p>\n

MEET AND GREET<\/p>\n

You can meet these dogs and dozens more awaiting adoption at the Tallahassee Animal Service Center. It\u2019s located across from Tom Brown Park at 1125 Easterwood Drive in Tallahassee.<\/p>\n

You can walk through the kennels Tuesday through Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and can also visit by appointment the rest of the week from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.<\/p>\n
