Henning and two other Dolphins receivers had big day

The Miami Dolphins receivers must have heard all the talk about how disappointing their unit had been the first week because the wideouts helped the offense shine in the first practice in front of fans.

Sunday practice, which was the first of nine open to the public, was a deep ball feast for Miami’s quarterbacks, who finally had a strong showing in what’s been a defensive dominated training camp.

Rookie slot receiver Kevin Coleman Jr. produced a 70-yard catch-and-run play he turned onto a touchdown from Quinn Ewers, who exploited a route that cornerback Marco Wilson slipped on.

On the next series starting quarterback Malik Willis found Tutu Atwell wide-open on post route that he turned into a 60-yard gain before safety Dante Trader Jr. stopped him at the 10-yard line.

Second year receiver A.J. Henning, who spent last year on the Dolphins’ practice squad, delivered two deep receptions. The first was a bomb he caught from Ewers, beating cornerback A.J. Green III.

Then Cam Miller found Henning on a 50-yard go-route he caught over cornerback Miles Battle along the right sidelines.

If this type of big play production continues the Dolphins might have a chance of delivering a respectable offense in 2026.

Top Plays/Performers

Cornerback Chris Johnson pulled down an interception on a pass from Ewers, stepping in front of an out route intended for Henning….Tight end Cole Turner has a strong showing on Sunday, taking advantage of the reps that would typically go to Greg Dulcich, who missed Sunday’s work for unknown reasons….Cameron Goode delivered back-to-back go plays when he produced a tackle for loss, and recovered a fumbled pitch from Miller….Zach Sieler and Kenneth Grant stuffed a De’Von Achane run 4-yards into the backfield.

Stock Up

Ewers, Miami’s second-year quarterback, followed up a strong offseason with a disappointing first week of camp, but seemingly redeemed himself on Sunday when he connected on two deep passes, the first of which was to Coleman Jr. and the second to Henning. Ewers wasn’t perfect on the day because he was picked off by rookie cornerback Chris Johnson. But it’s always beneficial to see how players respond to adversity, and that interception didn’t stop Ewers from being aggressive with his approach.

Stock Down

Austin Jackson sat out the entire offseason program resting his surgically repaired right foot, and it seems as if the rust is showing. Jackson, the Dolphins’ projected starting right tackle, has struggled for the past few days when it comes to pass protection, and during Sunday’s practices his slow footwork was extremely noticeable, especially on the sack Josh Uche produced, slipping his block. It’ll be interesting to see if Jackson’s performance improves when pads go this week, and offensive linemen have a little bit more to hold on to.

Injury Report

Tight end Greg Dulcich, who is projected as Miami’s starting tight end, and Jamaree Salyer, one of the team’s top backup offensive linemen, each missed Sunday’s practice for unknown reasons.

What They Said

“That guy is a leader. Ever since he stepped foot into this building, just how he says things, approaches the building, every time we’re out there we can see it. It’s how he approaches his job day in, and day out. [Jeff Hafley] has been that leader to me and to our group since he set foot into the building,” offensive guard Jonah Savaiinaea said, talking about coach Hafley’s approach with the team.

This story was originally published August 2, 2026 at 1:14 PM.

The Miami Dolphins receivers must have heard all the talk about how disappointing their unit had been the…

[9
123,125,124
post-360996","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-miami","tag-miami","tag-miami-headlines","tag-miami-news
["GET
