{"id":36122,"date":"2025-11-06T18:05:15","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T18:05:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/36122\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T18:05:15","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T18:05:15","slug":"reports-faa-cuts-flights-at-orlando-tampa-airports-what-passengers-need-to-know","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/36122\/","title":{"rendered":"Reports: FAA cuts flights at Orlando, Tampa airports; what passengers need to know"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/E10D1A855C6F2EB625ED0AF46F63925A.jpg\" alt=\"FAA to reduce air traffic by 10% at 40 airports\" class=\"sr-only\" data-v-7a5d4fdb=\"\"\/>   <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">ORLANDO, Fla. &#8211; Flights across the country can expect to be impacted by a 10% reduction of air traffic at 40 major markets due to the government shutdown, as the FAA announced Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Orlando International Airport was listed as one of the 40 impacted airports, according to a <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/faa-government-shutdown-flight-cuts-airports-list-a11237fe6d6e14bed0935930dffed72e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">published list from the Associated Press<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tampaairport.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tampa International Airport<\/a> is also included in the list.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">&#8220;Based on a report from Airports Council International-North America, an organization that supports and advocates for airports, MCO is identified as one of the 40 U.S. airports that will have flight reductions beginning Friday (tomorrow),&#8221; the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority said in a statement to FOX 35. &#8220;This may mean fewer arrivals and departures, which could help slow the rate of activity in the national air space system and assist airports that are experiencing staffing challenges; however, the FAA has not given MCO official notification on its status.<\/p>\n<p original-article-post=\"\" origination_station=\"WOFL\" data-v-ec26887a=\"\" data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">What we know:<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">This announcement came after airports nationwide \u2013 including the <a href=\"https:\/\/flymco.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Orlando International Airport (MCO)<\/a> \u2013 faced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fox35orlando.com\/news\/orlando-international-airport-resumes-normal-operations-following-hours-delays\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">delays and cancellations due to staffing shortages<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Orlando International Airport (MCO) officials told FOX 35 that they have not been notified if Orlando is on the list of the 40 &#8220;high volume&#8221; major airports slated for a 10% reduction in flights.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/orlando-international-airport-MCO-7.png\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/>  Why are 10% of flights reduced?\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Federal Aviation Administration<\/a> announced Wednesday that it will cut air traffic by 10% across 40 major markets starting Friday morning, Nov. 7 to maintain safety during the ongoing government shutdown.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), nearly half of all major air traffic control facilities have been affected by staffing shortages caused by a surge in sick calls. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said workers will receive back pay once the shutdown ends, but says the administration is unable to pay certain essential workers, like air traffic controllers, without congressional cooperation.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the agency is not going to wait for a problem to act, saying the shutdown is causing staffing pressures and &#8220;we can&#8217;t ignore it.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/screenshot-2025-10-31-110142.png\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p data-v-0dea8073=\"\">Flights to Orlando International Airport (MCO) were delayed for hours on Thursday night due to FAA staffing issues, according to the FAA&#8217;s National Airspace System website. <\/p>\n<p>  Which airports are affected?\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/government-shutdown-reduced-flights-a082a6817d960101968a923f7dfd8ef0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">published list, referred to by the Associated Press<\/a>, affected airports covering more than two dozen states include the busiest ones across the U.S. \u2014 including Atlanta, Denver, Dallas, Orlando, Miami, and San Francisco. Tampa International in Florida<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">FOX 35 has reached out to the FAA to confirm each airport on this list.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> How many airlines operate out of MCO?\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\"><a href=\"https:\/\/flymco.com\/airlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Forty-three airlines<\/a> currently operate out of MCO.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/screenshot-2025-10-31-114426.png\" alt=\"\" data-v-0dea8073=\"\"\/> <\/p>\n<p data-v-0dea8073=\"\">Travelers at Orlando International Airport check into their gates on Oct. 30, 2025.\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p>  Airlines offering flexible travel <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Six airlines released statements regarding offering flexible travel to customers affected by the FAA decision.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Allegiant <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Allegiant&#8217;s network has not been impacted, and all scheduled flights are operating as normal, the airline said in a statement. Allegiant is awaiting further instruction from the FAA, it said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">If any flights are affected, passengers will be notified directly through our normal communication channels, the airline said, saying customers don&#8217;t need to take action at this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> American Airlines <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Though American Airlines said it expects the vast majority of our customers\u2019 travel will be unaffected and long-haul international travel will remain as scheduled, the airline said it will proactively reach out to impacted customers. Customers whose flights are canceled for any reason or who choose not to travel will be able to change their flight or request a refund, without any penalty, American Airlines said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Delta <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Delta is complying with a directive from the FAA and the U.S. Department of Transportation to reduce flights at 40 major U.S. airports beginning Friday, Nov 7. The airline expects to operate the vast majority of our flights as scheduled, including all long-haul international service. Delta said it will work to minimize customer impact while keeping safety our top priority.<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Delta said it&#8217;s offering flexibility to all of our customers during the impacted travel period, allowing customers to change, cancel or refund their flights without penalty. This includes basic economy fares, the airline said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> Frontier\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Frontier said most flights are expected to operate as planned, but if changes to flight schedules are necessary, the airline will communicate with impacted customers via email, text, and the Frontier mobile app. Customers whose flights are canceled or delayed for more than 3 hours (domestic flights) or 6 hours (international flights) are able to rebook or to request a refund online, the airline said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">Frontier also offers a flexible travel policy, allowing any customer traveling during this period who would like to change or cancel their travel plans. Changes or cancellations can be made on the Frontier website or app. Customers can check Frontier&#8217;s <a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/www.flyfrontier.com\/alert\/__;!!PxibshUo2Yr_Ta5B!3y_GozbYflbrjrYsaUKw2ODlX5EAy9gjBqWpA-KosRaxll8SoDtcbnyfqknmWjrs9PLD0JCoYplwZ7gR-eo6Fhc%24\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Travel Alerts page for the latest updates.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p> Southwest\u00a0 <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">On Wednesday evening, a Southwest spokesperson told FOX 35 that it&#8217;s evaluating how the planned FAA flight restrictions will affect the schedule, saying it will communicate directly with customers as soon as possible.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">&#8220;Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees. We continue to urge Congress to immediately resolve its impasse and restore the National Airspace System to its full capacity,&#8221; Southwest said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p> United <\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">United\u2019s long-haul international and our hub-to-hub flying won&#8217;t be impacted by the schedule reduction direction from the FAA, the airline said in a statement. Instead, regional flying and domestic mainline flights that don&#8217;t travel between United&#8217;s hubs will be impacted by scheduled reductions, United said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p data-v-6fc2855c=\"\">The airline will communicate with customers directly if their flight changes and provide rebooking options through its app, website and push notifications. Any customer traveling during this period is eligible for a refund if they don&#8217;t want to fly \u2013 even if their flight isn\u2019t impacted.
