That will likely leave the JTA without a permanent CEO for a short time. The agency has not announced an interim leader.

“Mr. Ford brings decades of executive leadership in public transportation, a proven record of organizational transformation, and a deep understanding that transit is about much more than buses and trains,” said DART Board Chair Randall Bryant in a statement.

Ford has led JTA for more than 13 years, first joining in 2012. Prior to his stint in Jacksonville, Ford worked as CEO of the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) in California and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) in Georgia.

During public comment at a DART meeting, six residents warned against hiring Ford, according to our news partners at the Florida Times-Union. Several said they do not want Ford to bring autonomous transit vehicles to Dallas as he has in Jacksonville, where the Neighborhood Autonomous Vehicle Innovation (NAVI) shuttles have suffered from low ridership and high costs since they went into service downtown a year ago.

NAVI is the first fully autonomous public transportation system network in the United States. The JTA has said it believes NAVI has a key role in supporting downtown growth and spearheading autonomous transportation programs nationwide. The agency says it had 989 riders in May 2026, during which the fare was free.

[8
116,118,117
post-361272","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville","tag-jacksonville-headlines","tag-jacksonville-news
["GET
