ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 This summer, pest control company Orkin has revealed its latest list of \u201cbed bug cities\u201d in the U.S.<\/a><\/p>\n

The list is released as summer travel ramps up\u2014an important reminder, Orkin says, because bed bugs can hitchhike home in luggage and other personal items after stays in hotels and short-term rentals.<\/p>\n

Where Florida ranks<\/p>\n

Orkin\u2019s rankings are based on the metro areas where the company conducted the most residential and commercial bed bug treatments from May 2025 to May 2026.<\/p>\n

Florida cities on the 2026 list include:<\/p>\n

Tampa\u00a0\u2014 No. 46 (new to Orkin\u2019s top 50)<\/p>\n

Miami\u00a0\u2014 No. 47 (down six spots from last year)<\/p>\n

While Florida doesn\u2019t appear in the top 10, Orkin said fast-growing and high-traffic destinations joining\u2014or shifting within\u2014the list underscores how travel and turnover can help spread infestations.<\/p>\n

Orkin notes bed bugs can be found anywhere, but they spread more easily in places with high resident and visitor turnover\u2014such as:<\/p>\n

\u201cTravel season brings excitement, but it also makes awareness especially important,\u201d said Dr. Shannon Sked, Orkin entomologist and National Technical Director. \u201cBed bugs are resilient pests that can be difficult to control once introduced into a home or hotel room, and they are skilled at hiding in cracks, crevices and personal belongings.\u201d<\/p>\n

Orkin\u2019s S.L.E.E.P. checklist to avoid bringing bed bugs home<\/p>\n

Search the room for bugs and signs (speckled stains, shed skins, musty odor)<\/p>\n

Lift sheets, curtains and cushions to check hiding spots<\/p>\n

Elevate luggage on racks, away from beds and furniture<\/p>\n

Examine luggage when repacking and again at home<\/p>\n

Place dryer-safe clothes in a hot dryer for\u00a030\u201345 minutes\u00a0after returning<\/p>\n
