JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2013 When it comes to the ooey-gooey goodness that is donuts, Jacksonville has plenty to offer.<\/p>\n
But year after year, one shop, or should we say \u201cshoppe,\u201d seems to come out on top.<\/p>\n
And once again, The Donut Shoppe in Arlington reigns supreme after being voted best donuts in the Jacksonville area by our News4JAX Insiders.<\/p>\n
The Donut Shoppe beat out stiff competition from Cinotti\u2019s Bakery, Duck Donuts and Parlor Doughnuts.<\/p>\n
Known for being cash only (there\u2019s an ATM on site) and selling out of its fresh donuts daily, The Donut Shoppe on University Boulevard North has been serving customers since the 1960s. (It also takes business checks.)<\/p>\n
Morning Show anchor Melanie Lawson recently visited the hot spot during our 4 Your Neighborhood special, highlighting Arlington.<\/p>\n
The current owners, who are mother and daughter, said the old-fashioned feel is what keeps customers coming back for generations.<\/p>\n
They said they see customers who came in as kids now bringing in their kids for a special treat.<\/p>\n
The shop at 1535 University Blvd. North is open every day from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until the made fresh daily, hand-cut products sell out). <\/p>\n
The Donut Shoppe offers 20 varieties, including apple fritters, known as \u201cuglies,\u201d eclairs, cake donuts and yeast-raised donuts.<\/p>\n
And yes, they have seasonal flavors, like pumpkin!<\/p>\n
