The West Port community in Port Charlotte is among the large residential developments driving Charlotte County’s population growth as officials plan new infrastructure, public services and economic development to meet future demand.<\/p>\n

Developers of West Port in Charlotte County announced a major eastward expansion of the master-planned community that will add 423 new homes across 180 acres.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The expansion also includes regional infrastructure improvements and a major retail center anchored by a Publix grocery store that is scheduled to open in late 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Fronting State Road 776, the shopping plaza will mark the entrance to the new phase. Adjacent land is planned for future restaurants, neighborhood retail, a fitness center and mixed-use development.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThis expansion represents a massive milestone for both West Port and Charlotte County. This next phase builds on our successful partnership with the county, allowing us to deliver a mix of residential homes at attainable prices, convenient neighborhood shopping, and critical road infrastructure that benefits the entire region,\u201d said Jim Harvey, president of Brookfield Kolter Land Partners.\u00a0<\/p>\n

D.R. Horton is building homes in the expansion, with Lennar expected to begin building additional homes in 2027.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The first residential neighborhood in the expansion, Driftwood Bay, is now open, with D.R. Horton offering single-family homes starting in the mid-$200,000s.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Beyond new housing, the expansion includes infrastructure improvements designed to ease traffic congestion throughout the greater Port Charlotte area.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Among those projects is the completion of Flamingo Boulevard, the expansion\u2019s primary roadway, which will create a new connection between U.S. 41 and State Road 776. The road is scheduled to open later this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Flamingo Boulevard will initially open as a two-lane roadway before expanding to four lanes with a landscaped median. The project also extends West Port\u2019s pedestrian sidewalk and trail network throughout the new phases of the community.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brookfield Kolter Land Partners was selected as the master developer of West Port after a lengthy approval process by the Charlotte County Commission. The initial phase transformed Centennial Boulevard into a major connector between U.S. 41 and State Road 776 while delivering more than 1,200 homes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now nearing buildout, West Port includes about 2,000 homes. The latest expansion will increase that total to more than 2,400 single-family and multifamily residences.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brookfield Kolter Land Partners LLC, together with its affiliates Brookfield Kolter Land, is a partnership between Kolter and an affiliate of Brookfield Residential focused on land investment and the development of finished lots for sale, typically to third-party homebuilders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The company focuses on projects delivering between 250 and 1,000 lots while providing attainable housing with amenities and proximity to employment centers, according to the firm.\u00a0<\/p>\n
