MIAMI \u2014 A 9-year-old boy is continuing a difficult recovery after being attacked by several dogs on a beach in Bimini last week<\/a>, his family told Local 10 News on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

Beau\u2019s mother, Aliette Trelles, said her son is making progress after suffering severe injuries in the attack.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s doing well. He\u2019s strong. He\u2019s a fighter,\u201d Trelles said. \u201cHe\u2019s blowing people away with his ability to recover.\u201d<\/p>\n

Beau was staying with family and close friends at a home in Bimini Cove when, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force, he stepped outside shortly before 10:30 a.m. on July 28 to collect sand.<\/p>\n

His mother, Aliette Trelles, said Beau had a simple mission that morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe night before we were catching hermit crabs, and his mission that morning was to get sand for the crabs,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

Trelles said Beau was suddenly attacked by several large dogs but was able to run back inside.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll he kept repeating was dogs, dogs, dogs, dogs,\u201d she added. \u201cHe was speaking like he was going to die, speaking to God and saying, \u2018I don\u2019t wanna die this way.\u2019 And me looking at him, holding him, inspecting all these wounds, going, \u2018Is this the moment I lose my son?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The attack left Beau with severe injuries to his limbs, face and neck, including the loss of a portion of his scalp. His mother said the top portion of his head had to be treated with a special sealed wrap to help with healing.<\/p>\n

\u201cHis entire crown of his head was removed,\u201d Trelles said.<\/p>\n

Beau was flown by the U.S. Coast Guard to Jackson Memorial Hospital\u2019s Ryder Trauma Center in Miami-Dade County for emergency treatment. His father, Michael Brattain, said Beau remained awake during the flight.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was awake the entire time. My goal was to keep him awake. \u2018Beau look at me keep your eyes open,\u2019\u201d said Brattain. <\/p>\n

Beau has undergone three surgeries so far, with his family expecting a long recovery involving additional procedures and therapy. Friends and family are raising money to help cover the cost of his care, which Trelles estimated could reach millions of dollars.<\/p>\n

\u201cUpwards of 2, 3, even $4 million, depending on reconstruction and therapy needs,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Beau\u2019s parents are now sharing his story to raise awareness and encourage action to prevent similar attacks.<\/p>\n

\u201cAn island that held so much joy and memory for me is a place I don\u2019t want to go again. I don\u2019t want anyone to go back to again until they get their stuff together,\u201d Trelles said.<\/p>\n

Local 10 is working to get more confirmed information directly from the Royal Bahamas Police Force. Media reports out of Bimini have indicated there were previous concerns about stray dogs in the area before the attack, and the owner of those dogs is reportedly cooperating with authorities.<\/p>\n

Both of Beau\u2019s parents have retained legal counsel as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n
