Perez Hilton was \u201creceiving medical care\u201d Wednesday, the celebrity blogger and podcaster\u2019s team and family said, after police responded to his Miami-area home following reports that he appeared to engage in self-harm during a livestream. <\/p>\n
A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff\u2019s Office told NBC News that deputies responded to reports Tuesday night of someone \u201cwho was livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media.\u201d <\/p>\n
The statement, sent via email in response to an inquiry about Hilton, did not name him.<\/p>\n
In a follow-up statement, the sheriff\u2019s office said the person was \u201csafely recovered\u201d and taken by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a hospital, where he was receiving medical attention.<\/p>\n
Deputies also spoke to family members at the scene, who confirmed the person had been alone inside the residence, the sheriff\u2019s office added. <\/p>\n
In a statement Wednesday on Hilton\u2019s website, his team and family said that they were \u201cincredibly grateful for the overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and prayers.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe can confirm that Perez is receiving medical care, and our family\u2019s focus right now is on his well-being,\u201d the statement said. \u201cWe kindly ask that you respect Perez\u2019s privacy, as well as the privacy of his family, during this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a separate statement Wednesday night, the family said Hilton \u201cis able to communicate, which has given our family hope.\u201d<\/p>\n
The video, which was streamed on TikTok before the platform pulled it, appeared to show Hilton covered in blood, with visible cuts and holding what appeared to be a knife. In the video, viewers pleaded with him and asked for his phone number so they could alert authorities.<\/p>\n
