His experience stems from working as a director in policy for a county commissioner, experience he says can translate to the leadership the county is lacking.

“I am running to reimagine Broward County the way it operates, the way it delivers, the way it uses and spends taxpayers dollars, and the way it works with other agencies with the goal of improving quality of life,” said Bold.

A.J. Ryan is a former Dania Beach mayor and current commissioner. He said he is confident that his former experience in leading a city and with his youth and energy makes him the right fit for the job.

“I have the institutional knowledge, and I have the experience to really represent this place the right way,” he said.

Candidate Jeffrey Jones is a businessman who grew up in Hallandale Beach. Local 10 reached out to Jones for his comments, but he has not replied as of the time of this story’s publication.

Key issues the county is facing includes Amendment 3, a question on the November ballot to cut local property taxes and expand the homestead exemption.

It’s an amendment that the three candidates Local 10 spoke with were against.

Also at issue is public safety and spending from Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony.

The candidates each weighed in on wanting to see more transparency and accountability from Broward County’s top cop.

“I think there has to be a balance between ensuring that our officers are equipped to the best that they can be, but also that the taxpayers are not being hit with a cost with,” said Shuham.

“As an institution, I do believe that BSO can do a better job when it comes to accountability, transparency and working with the county commission,” said Bold.

Added Ryan: “He does not spare any expense when it comes to public safety and I understand that. You cannot put a price on a life, but when it comes to certain equipment, certain studies, new facilities, I feel like we could probably sharpen the pencil a little more on that.”

🏠 News From Your Neighborhood

Copyright 2026 by WPLG Local10.com – All rights reserved.

BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Four candidates are running to replace Broward County District 6 Commissioner Beam Furr, who…

[17
249,251,250
post-364766","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale","tag-fort-lauderdale-headlines","tag-fort-lauderdale-news
["GET
