{"id":364778,"date":"2026-08-06T23:43:27","date_gmt":"2026-08-06T23:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/364778\/"},"modified":"2026-08-06T23:43:27","modified_gmt":"2026-08-06T23:43:27","slug":"no-plans-to-trade-vita-vea-bucs-gm-says","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/364778\/","title":{"rendered":"No plans to trade Vita Vea, Bucs&#8217; GM says"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have no plans to trade away their star defensive tackle.<\/p>\n<p>That is the message the team&#8217;s general manager had for fans and every other NFL team when asked about Vita Vea on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/baynews9.com\/fl\/tampa\/news\/2026\/07\/27\/bucs-defensive-tackle-vita-vea-reportedly-seeking-trade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Vea has requested to be sent to another team<\/a> after he and the front office couldn&#8217;t reach a deal on an extension in the offseason.<\/p>\n<p>Vea&#8217;s agent said a trade is all but inevitable.<\/p>\n<p>Bucs General Manager Jason Licht, however, said the team is still trying to figure out how to hold on to the defense&#8217;s centerpiece.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We love Vita. We\u2019ve been engaged with his agent recently. I don\u2019t know how it\u2019s going to end, but we\u2019ve been engaged, and that\u2019s at least some progress,&#8221; Licht said.<\/p>\n<p>Vea isn&#8217;t practicing because of what the team is calling a minor back issue.<\/p>\n<p>Licht also said he is keeping the door open to continue contract negotiations with quarterback Baker Mayfield should the play-caller change his stance and come to the table.<\/p>\n<p>Mayfield has said he and his agent <a href=\"https:\/\/baynews9.com\/fl\/tampa\/news\/2026\/07\/23\/tampa-bay-optimistic-as-training-camp-arrives-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wouldn&#8217;t discuss a new deal<\/a> once football activities began.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"TAMPA, Fla. \u2014 The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have no plans to trade away their star defensive tackle.
