Imagine stepping into a Universal Studios theme park, either Universal Studios Florida or Universal Studios Hollywood, and getting to ride a classic attraction that was once the staple of theme park attractions.<\/p>\n

This is what appears to be the possible case as rumors are suggesting that both Universal theme parks are looking to bring back certain dead classic attractions from the past and into the modern (or even\u00a0future) realm.<\/p>\n

A quiet stretch of the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot may not remain quiet for much longer.<\/p>\n

More than a year after Fast & Furious\u2014Supercharged took its final lap on the World-Famous Studio Tour, new activity has been reported around the attraction\u2019s former show building. Utility markings, open doors, discarded scenic material, and signs of an interior cleanout have given fresh momentum to an increasingly specific rumor: Universal could be preparing a new Studio Tour encounter inspired by Twisters (2024).<\/p>\n

There is an important boundary, however. Universal has not announced Twisters, an opening date, or a matching attraction for Universal Orlando Resort. What the company has confirmed is that something new is intended for the Hollywood location.<\/p>\n

\nUniversal Studios Hollywood Promised a New Studio Tour Attraction<\/p>\n

Fast & Furious\u2014Supercharged closed permanently on March 10, 2025, ending nearly 10 years as the Studio Tour\u2019s action-heavy finale. In its February 2025 closure announcement<\/a>, Universal Studios Hollywood said the segment\u2019s removal would \u201cpave the way for an exciting all-new Studio Tour attraction to be announced soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

That replacement has yet to receive a public announcement.<\/p>\n

Since the closure, the Studio Tour has continued operating without the finale, while the Fast & Furious franchise moved toward a far more literal interpretation of speed. Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, Universal Studios Hollywood\u2019s first high-speed outdoor roller coaster, is scheduled to open in summer 2026.<\/p>\n

Now, attention is returning to the vacant show building.<\/p>\n

Theme-park observers have reported fresh utility markings along nearby roads and around the structure. Recent eyewitness accounts also describe open doors, dumpsters containing material from the former attraction, and a warning light indicating that personnel were working inside. The building has reportedly been largely emptied and is no longer serving the same tram-storage function it did after Supercharged closed.<\/p>\n

Those observations indicate activity. They do not reveal what Universal is building.<\/p>\n

\nWhy the \u2018Twisters\u2019 Attraction Rumor Fits Hollywood<\/p>\n

The Twisters claim gained wider attention after theme-park reporters Alicia Stella and \u201cNaynay\u201d discussed the possibility during the closing portion of a recent ParkTalk Podcast episode<\/a>. Their discussion presented Twisters as the prospective Hollywood replacement, not as a Universal announcement.<\/p>\n

Conceptually, it is easy to understand the attraction of the idea.<\/p>\n

The Studio Tour already uses staged disasters and filmmaking effects as part of its identity. Flash Flood sends water surging through a backlot set, while Earthquake recreates a destructive subway disaster. A tornado sequence could function as both movie spectacle and effects demonstration\u2014something more naturally connected to a working-studio tour than Supercharged\u2019s fictional interruption of the tram route.<\/p>\n

It would also revive an attraction concept Universal guests already know. Twister\u2026Ride It Out operated at Universal Studios Florida from 1998 until November 1, 2015, using wind, rain, fire, flying debris, and a physical funnel cloud to recreate the 1996 film\u2019s climactic weather.<\/p>\n

Inside the Magic documented Twister\u2026Ride It Out\u2019s closure<\/a> and later revisited the practical-effects attraction\u2019s history<\/a>. Its former location now houses Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon.<\/p>\n

A new version could draw from Twisters rather than simply restoring the 1998 experience. Still, no available evidence establishes whether Universal would reuse Supercharged\u2019s wraparound screens, install substantial physical effects, or rebuild the interior more extensively.<\/p>\n

The absence of a publicly identified heavy-alteration permit does not answer that question. Permits can appear later, proceed under less recognizable project descriptions, or cover only part of a larger development.<\/p>\n

\nUniversal Orlando\u2019s Separate Fast & Furious Question<\/p>\n

The rumor becomes less secure when it crosses the country.<\/p>\n

Universal\u2019s official attraction page<\/a> says Fast & Furious\u2014Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida will permanently close beginning August 17, 2026. August 16 is its final operating day.<\/p>\n

Inside the Magic has covered both the accelerated closing date<\/a> and several speculative replacement possibilities<\/a>, including Twisters and Back to the Future.<\/p>\n

Universal has not announced either property for that building.<\/p>\n

Hollywood and Florida also present different creative problems. In Hollywood, the tram travels through an existing effects encounter. In Florida, Universal must decide what to do with a full queue, preshow spaces, loading infrastructure, and standalone ride system. A concept that works as a concise Studio Tour sequence would not automatically transfer intact to Orlando.<\/p>\n

For now, visitors should expect Hollywood\u2019s Studio Tour to continue without Supercharged and Orlando\u2019s attraction to give its final rides on August 16. Everything beyond those facts\u2014including tornadoes on one coast or time travel on the other\u2014remains a possibility, not a plan.<\/p>\n

Universal promised Hollywood another attraction. The activity around the old finale suggests that promise may finally be moving forward. Its identity remains behind closed doors.<\/p>\n
