ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Whataburger<\/a> is officially back in Orlando \u2014 and fans proved they\u2019ve been ready for this moment since the chain closed its Orlando-area locations in 2009.<\/p>\n

The grand opening on East Colonial Drive drew a crowd that started lining up the day before, with some people hoping to score one of the biggest perks of the morning: free Whataburger for a year, awarded to the first two customers in line and the first two customers through the drive-thru.<\/p>\n

Serina Parke, who said she was first in line, arrived at 5 a.m. the day before after trying Whataburger on a trip to Texas and finding out the chain was returning to Central Florida. \u201cI visited Texas for my very first Whataburger\u2026 and I said, I\u2019m going to be the first one in line,\u201d Parke said.<\/p>\n

Nick, who said he was among those waiting early in the drive-thru line, described turning the long wait into a hangout. \u201cWe watched a lot of movies\u2026 we brought, like, our laptops, iPads, phones,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Beyond the crowds and giveaways, company leadership framed the opening as a milestone moment for the brand \u2014 and part of its broader Florida expansion. Debbie Stroud, president and CEO of Whataburger, noted the timing lines up with a major anniversary. \u201cIt\u2019s an incredible milestone for the Whataburger brand\u2026 it\u2019s our 76th birthday,\u201d Stroud said, adding that Whataburger has seen strong support as it reenters the region.<\/p>\n

The regional marketing manager said the turnout matched what the company expected from its fanbase. \u201cThe reception from the community has been outstanding\u2026 our fans have shown out,\u201d Juan Valenzuela, Senior Manager of Field Marketing and Events, said.<\/p>\n

What also stood out to customers was the promise that the Orlando location is open 24\/7 \u2014 a move that\u2019s become increasingly rare as many major retailers and restaurants across the country step away from round-the-clock hours. For Whataburger fans, it means late-night patty melts, early-morning breakfast, and the chain\u2019s well-known \u201cjust like you like it\u201d customization any time of day.<\/p>\n

The grand opening also included a community component. Whataburger partnered with local charity Blessings in a Backpack<\/a>, presenting the organization with a $2,500 check \u2014 a nod to the company\u2019s emphasis on being involved locally as it grows in Central Florida.<\/p>\n

From longtime loyalists wearing orange-and-white stripes to newcomers trying Whataburger for the first time, the return felt like more than a restaurant opening \u2014 it was a homecoming, fueled by nostalgia, nonstop hours, and a fanbase that showed up early to prove it.<\/p>\n
