(WCTV\/Gray Florida Capital Bureau) &#8211; It\u2019s not just homeowners who will need to consider the impacts of Amendment 3 in Florida. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Advocacy groups say the tax burden will shift to renters if the amendment passes in November. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The proposed amendment would raise the homestead tax exemption but that only applies to homeowners, not those who rent.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Save Our Services, a leading group opposing Amendment 3, said local governments would shift the tax burden to renters, which would hurt renters like Kelly Lynch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re currently able to pay our bill and still have a little bit left over that we can save,\u201d Lynch said. \u201cAnd that has just been our goal for years is to finally know what it\u2019s like to have money in a savings account and not be living check to check.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text text-center\">Florida politics: <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The amendment language is<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2026\/08\/04\/judge-rules-florida-property-tax-amendment-ballot-wording-defective-orders-rewrite\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.wctv.tv\/2026\/08\/04\/judge-rules-florida-property-tax-amendment-ballot-wording-defective-orders-rewrite\/\"> currently being rewritten<\/a>, in part because a judge ruled the original language did not properly warn renters about the impacts to them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">But, Governor Ron DeSantis is still in support, even though he said his original property tax plan was modified by the legislature. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSo, the question is, do you want to see government grow that much and not get relief? Or would you rather rein in government, have that be more stable like we\u2019ve done in Florida with four straight budget reductions, but then you get more money in your pocket?\u201d DeSantis said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Individual homeowners would see a $250,000 property tax exemption if the amendment was fully implemented, though local government groups have warned they would need to cut back government services. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to Save Our Services, about one third of Floridians rent, but don\u2019t own.
