{"id":366335,"date":"2026-08-08T17:00:12","date_gmt":"2026-08-08T17:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/366335\/"},"modified":"2026-08-08T17:00:12","modified_gmt":"2026-08-08T17:00:12","slug":"flash-flood-threat-expands-from-south-florida-through-north-carolina-as-tropical-downpours-lash-the-southeast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/366335\/","title":{"rendered":"Flash flood threat expands from South Florida through North Carolina as tropical downpours lash the Southeast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/07\/world-news\/north-koreans-encouraged-to-eat-nutritious-dog-meat-soup-during-sweltering-summer-heat\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Summer\u00a0weekend<\/a> plans are once again at risk for millions of people across the\u00a0Southeast, as wet weather is expected to dampen the chances for time\u00a0outdoors.<\/p>\n<p>A stormy pattern has taken hold of the region, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/06\/us-news\/nyc-to-face-carribean-like-humidity-extreme-heat-and-storms\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">tropical moisture<\/a>\u00a0already surging into\u00a0Florida\u00a0and the Carolinas to kick off the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>This moisture will fuel thunderstorms, which will be capable of producing more intense rain than typical summer showers.<\/p>\n<p>A level 2 out of 4 <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/08\/03\/us-news\/nyc-under-flash-flood-warning-as-city-could-be-soaked-by-up-to-2-inches-of-rain-per-hour\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">flash flood risk<\/a> is in place to start the weekend for coastal South Carolina near Charleston with a wider 1 out of 4 threat from Miami to Wilmington, North Carolina.<\/p>\n<p>Localized amounts of more than 2 to 3 inches are possible where slower-moving storms develop during the afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/07\/28\/us-news\/nyc-under-flood-watch-as-big-apple-could-get-over-5-inches-of-rain-with-fears-of-life-threatening-flash-floods\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">some flash flooding <\/a>will be possible on Saturday across far northern Florida, southeast Georgia and the Carolinas.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"40251035\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/barrels-towards-west-central-coast-136822574.jpg\" alt=\"A car drives through heavy rain in Fort Myers, Florida, as Hurricane Milton approaches.\" class=\"wp-image-40251035\"  \/>A car drives through heavy rain in Fort Myers, Florida, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.
