TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – One Tallahassee organization that has been a lifeline for families in North Florida for more than a decade is now asking for help of its own.

Women Empowering Each Other provides diapers, baby essentials, hygiene products and other resources to mothers and families across 14 counties in Florida.

The nonprofit was founded by Denise Scott, who said she knows firsthand what it’s like to need help while raising a child. She had her daughter as a teen, and now they work together to make sure other families don’t go without.

“Diapers, wipes and formula are just how we get clients in the door,” said Scott. “It’s our compassion, love, dignity, support and empathy, and we’re like that because we’ve experienced the same things that our own clients have.”

Now, Women Empowering Each Other needs funding support or donated space to store essential products and operate its programs.

After 11 years of serving the community, they can’t afford to keep their current building. “We’re going to have to adapt, but it’s going to have to take community support,” Scott said.

Scott’s daughter, Stalandria McKinsey, serves as the operations manager. She said the organization provides more than physical resources, offering families a safe space.

“With us not being here, they are not too sure how life would be for them,” she said.

The duo aims to raise $10,000 to continue operations. The organization is also accepting volunteers.
