ORLANDO, Fla. \u2013 Florida is well-known for its large alligator population, but with that comes a pretty big downside: a greater possibility of alligator attacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

While these attacks are relatively rare, they do happen \u2014 and that sometimes leads to fatal consequences.<\/p>\n

In its latest report<\/a>, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says that there have been around 500 reported attacks in total since it first started keeping track back in 1948.<\/p>\n

Of these, over 150 were considered \u201cminor,\u201d meaning they required either no treatment or simple first aid.<\/p>\n

On the flip side, just under 350 were deemed \u201cmajor\u201d attacks, where the victims\u2019 injuries required dedicated medical care to treat their wounds. <\/p>\n

In all, 33 recorded attacks resulted in death, with the most recent involving a woman who was swimming at the Little Big Econ State Forest with friends<\/a> earlier this summer.<\/p>\n
