{"id":368478,"date":"2026-08-11T15:38:10","date_gmt":"2026-08-11T15:38:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/368478\/"},"modified":"2026-08-11T15:38:10","modified_gmt":"2026-08-11T15:38:10","slug":"ex-teacher-accused-of-threatening-to-bomb-church-in-fort-lauderdale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/368478\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-teacher accused of threatening to bomb church in Fort Lauderdale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.  \u2014 A 27-year-old woman faced charges on Tuesday in Broward County after allegedly threatening \u201cto blow up\u201d the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Melissa Redway is a former teacher at Westminster Academy, the church\u2019s private school at 5601 North Federal Highway, according to police. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cAfter sustaining an alleged brain injury, and not able to conduct her teaching duties, she was laid off,\u201d a police officer wrote, according to the arrest report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Redway, of Coconut Creek, is also a former member of the choir at the Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church at <a href=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/3q5rMBJWXR3iD9C26\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/maps.app.goo.gl\/3q5rMBJWXR3iD9C26\">5555 North Federal Highway<\/a>, according to police. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cDuring her time away and changing personnel, she lost her position. Redway did not accept the news well and attempted to rejoin the church choir,\u201d a police officer wrote, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">A leader at the church reported Redway used Gmail to send a threatening e-mail at about 11 a.m. on Feb. 8 that raised concerns about the safety of a concert on Feb. 20 at the church, according to the report. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Court records show the church\u2019s executive director had accused Redway of stalking violence after service on Feb. 19, and the case closed. A judge issued an arrest warrant on April 20 over the alleged threat. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Broward Sheriff\u2019s Office deputies arrested Redway on Monday, and corrections held her on Tuesday at the North Broward Bureau, according to inmate records. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Redway faced charges of threatening to throw, project, place, or discharge a destructive device, a second-degree felony, and writing and sending a threat to kill or injure someone, also a second-degree felony.
