{"id":369255,"date":"2026-08-12T10:36:18","date_gmt":"2026-08-12T10:36:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/369255\/"},"modified":"2026-08-12T10:36:18","modified_gmt":"2026-08-12T10:36:18","slug":"deadly-shooting-in-lauderhill-stemmed-from-dispute-police-say-nbc-6-south-florida","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/369255\/","title":{"rendered":"Deadly shooting in Lauderhill stemmed from dispute, police say \u2013 NBC 6 South Florida"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A dispute in Lauderhill on Friday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/police-investigation-underway-in-lauderhill\/3843280\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcmiami.com\/news\/local\/police-investigation-underway-in-lauderhill\/3843280\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">turned deadly<\/a>, and the man who allegedly fired shots was arrested, but has not been charged with the killing, police said. <\/p>\n<p>According to Lauderhill Police, officers arrived at the 1500 block of 33rd Avenue after receiving reports of a shooting.<\/p>\n<p>At the scene, officers found a man who was suffering gunshots wound, and he was taken to the Broward Health Medical Center, where he died.<\/p>\n<p>The man was identified as 23-year-old Steve Joseph.<\/p>\n<p>Video showed police tape surrounding a home, and behind a vehicle, what appears to be a pool of blood.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/LAUDERHILL-INVESTIGATION.png\" loading=\"lazy\"   alt=\"Chopper6 flew over the scene near Northwest 15th Street and Northwest 33rd Avenue. \"\/><\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\tNBC6NBC6<\/p>\n<p>Chopper6 flew over the scene near Northwest 15th Street and Northwest 33rd Avenue. <\/p>\n<p>During their investigation, officers learned that there was a dispute involving multiple people, which resulted in Joseph being shot. <\/p>\n<p>Police identified 22-year-old Roderick Daniel Thomas Jr. as the person who fired the gun. <\/p>\n<p>After the shooting, Thomas came to speak with investigators, and he was arrested for violation of probation for possession of a firearm. <\/p>\n<p>Police have not charged Thomas with Joseph&#8217;s death, and detectives are determining if the use of deadly force was legally justified. <\/p>\n<p>Witnesses told NBC6 that a group came to the home to confront the father of a child, and one of the men who arrived was shot and killed.<\/p>\n<p>Family of the child\u2019s father said threats were made the night before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe, I\u2019m gonna kill him. She\u2019s gonna see him die. She\u2019s gonna watch him die,\u201d Shirley Gibson said. <\/p>\n<p>Witnesses said the woman then returned Friday with her boyfriend and other men to confront the child\u2019s father.<\/p>\n<p>They said Joseph was shot during that confrontation.<\/p>\n<p>And while police were investigating, another man approached asking, \u201cWhere\u2019s my brother?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Witnesses said he appeared to have a gun in his pocket.
