JACKSONVILLE, Fla. \u2014 A federal grand jury has indicted a Jacksonville Beach dentist on charges of evading personal income taxes, failing to pay employment taxes and attempting to obstruct an IRS investigation, the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office for the Middle District of Florida announced.<\/p>\n
Jon Christopher Williams faces four counts of attempting to evade and defeat individual income taxes, 11 counts of failing to withhold and pay employment taxes, and one count of endeavoring to obstruct and impede the administration of internal revenue laws.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors allege that from 2020 through 2023, Williams failed to report roughly $3.37 million in gross income from his dental practice and failed to pay about $1.08 million in taxes owed on that income. <\/p>\n
>>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<<<\/a><\/p>\n According to the indictment, Williams filed personal income tax returns and paid the associated taxes every year from 2002 through 2012. He requested filing extensions for 2013 and 2014 but never filed returns for those years\u2014or any year since.<\/p>\n The indictment also alleges that while Williams filed employment tax returns and paid associated taxes from 2008 through 2013, he has not filed such returns or paid employment taxes since. From the second quarter of 2020 through the fourth quarter of 2022, he allegedly failed to report and remit approximately $133,360 in employment taxes.<\/p>\n The obstruction charge stems from Williams\u2019 actions after he was served with a summons on Oct. 21, 2021, which made him aware of the IRS criminal investigation. <\/p>\n From November 2021 through May 2024, prosecutors allege Williams sent numerous emails and letters seeking to stop the investigation to the investigating agent and others, including the agent\u2019s supervisor, a Florida member of Congress, Florida\u2019s two U.S. senators, the Treasury secretary, the attorney general, the IRS commissioner and an IRS district director.<\/p>\n [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks<\/a>]<\/p>\n The communications included claims that the agent\u2019s actions were causing him \u201charm, injury and loss,\u201d demands that she \u201ccease and desist\u201d all activity against him, and assertions that she could be held personally liable, according to the office. <\/p>\n The indictment states Williams also sent invoices demanding $525,000 in payment from the agent, the IRS, the Treasury Department and the attorney general, writing that they could \u201cavoid paying the invoices by the immediate termination of [the agent] from her current position of employment, along with her prevention from working at any other agency of the US government.\u201d<\/p>\n He also proposed how the matter could be resolved, writing that \u201ca simple note from you, or your superiors, stating that I, and anyone associated with me, are no longer under investigation and that no further action will be taken against me, my coworkers, or my loved ones, as there is no evidence of any criminal intent to commit a crime, will suffice,\u201d according to the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n [SIGN UP: Action News Jax Daily Headlines Newsletter<\/a>] <\/p>\n The case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigation and is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Arnold B. Corsmeier.<\/p>\n Court records show that Williams was arrested and arraigned Tuesday\u2014he pled not guilty and has retained an attorney.
