Alden Ehrenreich has joined Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler in the cast of Joseph Kosinski\u2019s \u201cMiami Vice \u201985,\u2019 Universal\u2019s upcoming film revival of the hit \u201980s TV series.<\/p>\n

Ehrenreich\u2019s role is being kept under wraps, but the film, written by \u201cNightcrawler\u201d Oscar nominee Dan Gilroy, will be based on the pilot of the original series. That 1984 episode saw the beginning of the partnership between Sonny Crocket and Rico Tubbs, now played by Jordan and Butler, as they take on drug lords and other criminals on the streets of Miami Beach.<\/p>\n

Filming for \u201cMiami Vice \u201985\u201d is set to begin later this year with a release scheduled for May 19, 2028<\/a>. Dylan Clark is producing alongside Kosinski, who is best known as the director of hit Best Picture Oscar-nominated films \u201cTop Gun: Maverick\u201d and \u201cF1.\u201d Executive Vice President of Production Development Sara Scott and Creative Executive of Production Development Christina Hoffrogge will oversee the project for the studio.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ehrenreich most recently received his first Tony Award for his Broadway debut in the play \u201cBecky Shaw\u201d and has recently been seen in Zach Cregger\u2019s horror film \u201cWeapons\u201d and opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Christopher Nolan\u2019s \u201cOppenheimer.\u201d He will next appear opposite Helen Mirren in Anton Corbijn\u2019s \u201cA Talent for Murder,\u201d which will premiere at TIFF next month. <\/p>\n

The actor is represented by\u00a0CAA, Linden Entertainment and Jackoway Austen Tyerman Wertheimer Mandelbaum Morris Bernstein Trainer and Klein.<\/p>\n
