\n\tJoseph Kosinski<\/a> is in early talks with Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler to star in his big-screen reboot of \u201cMiami Vice<\/a>.\u201d Speaking at the Hamilton Behind the Camera Awards, Kosinski, who was there to present to the \u201cF1\u201d sound team, opened up about why the two would be an ideal fit for their respective roles.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cMichael is someone I\u2019ve admired for a long time, [and] always wanted to work with him. Austin, I think, is proving himself as someone to watch. Again, I\u2019ve just have really admired his choices,\u201d he said. \u201cIf it ends up being those two, I\u2019d be very lucky.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tAs previously reported, Jordan would play Ricardo \u201cRico\u201d Tubbs<\/a>, while Butler would play James \u201cSonny\u201d Crockett. <\/a><\/p>\n

\n\tKosinski, the director behind this summer\u2019s \u201cF1\u201d and \u201cTop Gun: Maverick,\u201d also confirmed \u201cthe film takes place in 1985.\u201d Teasing the film\u2019s period looks, he added, \u201cIt\u2019s full on.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHis and Universal Pictures\u2019 \u201cMiami Vice\u201d was\u00a0first revealed<\/a>\u00a0in April, with a\u00a0release date<\/a>\u00a0set for Aug. 6, 2027. The movie is based on the 1980s TV series, starring Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as undercover detectives in South Florida.<\/p>\n

\n\tAccording to an official logline, the reboot \u201cexplores the glamour and corruption of mid-80\u2019s Miami\u201d and is \u201cinspired by the pilot episode and first season of the landmark television series that influenced culture and set the style of everything from fashion to filmmaking.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDylan Clark and Kosinski serve as producers, while Eric Warren Singer and Dan Gilroy penned the script.
