The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has arrested a Tallahassee man in connection with a deadly shooting in Gretna last month of a 25-year-old whose Nov. 1 memorial service would become the scene of a mass shooting.<\/a><\/p>\n

Jacquez Shakur Oneal, 22, was taken into custody on Nov. 4 without incident and charged with first-degree murder, a first-degree felony, according to FDLE.<\/p>\n

The investigation began Oct. 21 after Gretna Police requested FDLE\u2019s assistance in a homicide case. Authorities say a vehicle parked in the front yard of a residence was riddled with gunfire, striking the victim inside. The victim, Zaccheus Miller, died from the injuries.<\/p>\n

A Nov. 1 “celebration of life” for Miller became another scene of violence and death.<\/a> Dedario Jermartinez Hunter, 40, of Gretna opened fire with an assault rifle during a gunfight at the large memorial, according to FDLE. Four victims were struck by gunfire, one died and another was run over by a fleeing vehicle after the mass shooting.<\/p>\n

Gretna Police Chief Brian Alexander said those who were shot were likely innocent bystanders, caught in the crossfire of “several other individuals” shooting in a gunfight. He said more arrests are likely and that the violence at the memorial service may have been\u00a0“retaliatory.”<\/p>\n

Detectives say Oneal was the shooter in the Oct. 21 homicide, alleging he opened fire on the vehicle before fleeing the scene.<\/p>\n

The Gretna Police Department assisted in the investigation, and the State Attorney\u2019s Office for the Second Judicial Circuit will prosecute the case. FDLE said the investigation remains active.<\/p>\n

“He sped off the scene of the crime thinking he got away with murder,” FDLE wrote while announcing Oneal’s arrest on Facebook. “We found him and the car he drove off in.”<\/p>\n
