TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – Big upgrades are coming to the Havana Public Library. <\/p>\n
The campus on 5th Avenue in Havana will soon see a buzz of construction as work begins on a 2,000-square-foot expansion. <\/p>\n
The new wing will be on the south side of the current library, right next to the butterfly garden. County officials said it\u2019ll feature a high-tech computer lab, meeting spaces for job training and career advice, as well as AI and other STEM training opportunities. <\/p>\n
The expansion will also feature a telehealth office, something Gadsden County Commission Chairman Eric Hinson is particularly excited to see.<\/p>\n
\u201cHealth services is a problem. So we want to bring telehealth in our communities so we can be able to help more seniors as well as certain populations of our communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The $2 million expansion is thanks to a Florida Commerce grant with funding coming from the American Rescue Plan Act. <\/p>\n
Havana Town Manager Leigh Davis has been on the job six weeks. She said Thursday\u2019s groundbreaking is already a highlight. <\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m a great believer that public libraries are and can be the equalizer for particularly small communities like ours,\u201d she told WCTV.<\/p>\n
Hinson said the expansion should be finished by Spring 2027. <\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t the only library expansion underway in Gadsden County.
