Miami, FL – A federal judge in Miami has delayed a hearing that will determine whether Andrew and Tristan Tate remain in custody while challenging extradition to the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
U.S. Magistrate Judge Lauren Louis moved the detention hearing from August 13th to August 27th after defense attorneys requested additional time to respond to prosecutors seeking to keep the brothers jailed.<\/p>\n
Andrew Tate, 39, and Tristan Tate, 38, have remained at the Federal Detention Center in Miami since their July 18th arrests. <\/p>\n
The brothers, who hold U.S. and British citizenship, were arrested following an extradition request from British authorities.<\/p>\n
British authorities have charged the brothers with offenses stemming from alleged conduct involving multiple women. <\/p>\n
The allegations include rape, assault and facilitating human trafficking for sexual exploitation. <\/p>\n
The alleged offenses occurred between 2010 and 2017. <\/p>\n
The brothers have denied wrongdoing and are contesting extradition.<\/p>\n
Federal prosecutors argue the Tates should remain detained, citing the seriousness of the charges, concerns about flight risk and allegations that the brothers attempted to intimidate witnesses in Romania.<\/p>\n
Defense attorneys dispute that the brothers are flight risks, arguing their international public profiles would make fleeing difficult.<\/p>\n
They also point to the brothers’ compliance with restrictions imposed during separate legal proceedings in Romania.<\/p>\n
The defense has proposed conditions for release that include surrendering passports and electronic monitoring.<\/p>\n
The United Kingdom has until mid-September to provide supporting evidence for its extradition request.<\/p>\n
No date has been scheduled for the extradition hearing.<\/p>\n
