(WITN) &#8211; The community is invited to remember longtime Jacksonville officer XY Brown at a public viewing and celebration of life.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The viewing will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. August 23 at Sandy Run Missionary Baptist Church on Hargett Street in Jacksonville.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A celebration of life will follow at 11 a.m. August 24 at River of Life Church on Gum Branch Road. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Brown will then be laid to rest at Coastal Carolina Veterans\u2019 Cemetery on Montford Landing Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Drivers should expect some traffic delays during the services. Jacksonville police say they\u2019ll share updates as the ceremonies get closer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Brown retired from the Jacksonville Police Department in December 2025 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/08\/10\/community-remembers-longest-serving-police-officer-jacksonville-following-his-death\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2026\/08\/10\/community-remembers-longest-serving-police-officer-jacksonville-following-his-death\/\">at 98 years old<\/a>, after 68 years of serving the community. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He was the department\u2019s oldest officer and was believed to be the oldest serving police officer in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WITN.
