After months of seeing political ads and texts, Treasure Coast voters have their say this week in partisan primaries and nonpartisan races such as school board.

Florida’s primary and nonpartisan election is Aug. 18. Polls will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Here’s what you need to know:

Voting on Election Day

Voters must vote at assigned polling locations based on where you live. Vote-by-mail and absentee ballots must be received or delivered before 7 p.m. Election Day at the county elections office.

Voters may find their precinct online at: VoteIndianRiver.gov; Stlucievotes.gov; and Martinvotes.gov.

To vote, be prepared to show identification such as a driver’s license and voter registration card.

Florida is a closed primary state, which means that not all voters can cast ballots in partisan races. Partisan races for county commission, for example, may be closed if a candidate in an opposing party or write-in candidate has filed for the Nov. 3 election. Nonpartisan races, such as school board races, are open to all voters regardless of party affiliation.

First day of school at Hobe Sound Elementary in Martin County

1 of 11

Scenes from teacher Crystal Brandt’s third grade class on the first day of school at Hobe Sound Elementary on Aug. 10, 2026, in Martin County.
