ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 Orlando police officers used Narcan to revive a man during a reported fentanyl overdose just south of downtown Orlando, according to the police department.<\/p>\n
The Orlando Police Department said its Downtown Bike officers responded Aug. 12 to reports that a man was overdosing on fentanyl.<\/p>\n
Body-camera video released by the department shows officers arriving beneath an overpass as emergency lights flash nearby. Officers can be seen approaching a vehicle and then tending to the man on a sidewalk.<\/p>\n
Police said officers immediately began lifesaving measures and administered Narcan, a medication used to rapidly reverse an opioid overdose.<\/p>\n
The man began to recover after receiving the medication, according to police. He was later taken to a hospital for additional treatment.<\/p>\n
The video also shows other first responders arriving at the scene as officers continue assisting the man.<\/p>\n
Police did not identify the man or provide additional information about his condition after he was hospitalized.<\/p>\n
OPD said all of its officers carry Narcan and are trained to administer it when they encounter a suspected opioid overdose.<\/p>\n
The department described the incident as an example of officers using that training during an emergency.<\/p>\n
Police said the initial call involved a reported fentanyl overdose.
