LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) \u2014 A routine call for service turned into a rescue mission for two Port St. Lucie police officers after a group of ducklings became trapped in a storm drain.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/cbs12.com\/topic\/Port%20St.%20Lucie%20police\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Port St. Lucie Police Department<\/a> said Officers Ortiz and Garcia responded Friday to the area of Southeast Oakridge Drive and Southeast Oaklyn Street, where the young ducks had fallen into the drain.<\/p>\n<p>Body camera video released by the department shows officers working around the storm drain and reaching inside to retrieve the ducklings one by one. License plate cameras aid search after Vero Beach homicide<\/a><\/p>\n<p>After carefully removing the ducklings from the drain, officers reunited them with their mother, bringing the unusual call to a happy ending.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt may have been a small rescue, but it made for a pretty great start to the weekend,\u201d the department wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/reel\/1570975447743285\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Facebook <\/a>post.<\/p>\n<p>Police used the rescue as a reminder that protecting the community can sometimes include its smallest residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt PSLPD, we\u2019re always here to lend a helping hand \u2014 especially when our smallest community members need us,\u201d the department said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"PORT ST.
