JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Tuesday morning, polls will open across Florida for the state’s primary election for congressional, state, and local races.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Unlike in early voting, when you could vote at any early voting location in your county, on Election Day, you must vote at your assigned precinct.

Early voting ended this weekend after more than a week of in-person advance voting opportunities. According to data from the Florida Division of Elections, statewide turnout currently sits just below 15 percent. Nearly 16 percent of the state’s Republicans have cast a ballot so far, and more than 20 percent of the state’s registered Democrats have already voted.

Florida is a closed primary state, meaning that in most cases, you must already be registered with a specific party to vote in one of that party’s primary contests.

However, the primary also includes numerous races that will be open to all voters, regardless of party affiliation. That includes school board and judicial contests, as well as races for certain local offices.

In addition, in races where all of the candidates are of one party, with no unaffiliated or write-in candidates, the party primary will be open to all voters, since the primary will decide the office-holder.

To find your sample ballot so you can see what races you’re eligible to vote in, go to your county’s supervisor of elections page (linked below). You can also read about the candidates on the ballot in the News4JAX Voter’s Guide, which includes responses from the candidates in their own words.

In order to vote, you must bring one or two forms of valid and current identification that include your signature and photo.

Acceptable forms of ID include:

Florida Driver License

Florida ID Card (issued by DHSMV)

U.S. Passport

Debit or Credit Card

Military ID

Student ID

Retirement Center ID

Neighborhood Association ID

Public Assistance ID

Veteran Health ID (issued by the US Department of Veterans Affairs)

Concealed Weapon License (issued pursuant to F.S. 790.06)

Employee ID card issued by any branch, department, agency, or entity of the Federal Government, the state, a county, or a municipality.

If you show up without an ID, you can cast a “provisional” ballot, which is then evaluated by a canvassing board that decides if the ballot is eligible.

Vote-by-mail ballots must be received by your county’s supervisor of elections by 7 p.m. on Tuesday in order to be counted.

Find your polling precinct:

Once polls close at 7 p.m., we will have results here on News4JAX.com as they come in.
