Border Collies saved from hoarding will soon be available for adoption<\/p>\n

Just last week, WPBF25 News <\/a>brought you breaking news on an animal hoarding case in Martin County that involved over 30 border collies living in unimaginable conditions. The dogs, ranging from as old as 6 to as young as just a few months, are now getting to know what it’s like to be a real dog. <\/p>\n

The shelter believes that this is the first time some of these dogs have ever put their paws on grass. Most are still shy and skeptical of humans, but a majority are slowly opening up, showing curiosity and the desire for companionship. They don\u2019t have names yet and are just going by BC 1 through 36 for now.<\/p>\n

Thirty-six border collies rescued from a hoarding case in Martin County are receiving care at the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast and preparing for adoption.<\/p>\n

Sarah Fisher with the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast said, “These dogs came to us living in just awful conditions and every single day we’re seeing them open up more and more.\u201d <\/p>\n

The Border Collies were covered in urine and feces and had matted coats as well as infections when they were first brought to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast <\/a>earlier this month. Now that the final grooming has taken place, the border collies are getting to run around and play and enjoy being dogs.<\/p>\n

“Border collies are really smart animals. They love to work, they’re energetic and they love to please their people,” Fisher said. <\/p>\n

The case is still under investigation, but eventually all 36 wagging tails will be available for adoption. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re going to be looking for very specific adopters. These are not your typical dog that you’re going to adopt. The breed, first of all, is very smart; they’re very active, and on top of it, they have a lot of trauma, so they’re going to need to be worked with, be integrated into the real world. They’re not going to be potty trained \u2014 they don\u2019t know how to just be in a home the right way, so people just really need to understand that before applying for this breed,\u201d Fisher said. <\/p>\n
