TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – The trial for accused Florida State University gunman, Phoenix Ikner, has been delayed again.<\/p>\n
The trial, which was set to begin on October 19, is now scheduled for June 8, 2027, according to court records.<\/p>\n
This comes several days after defense attorneys for Ikner filed a motion to continue<\/a>, citing a heavy capital case load and a large amount of evidence to go through in order to properly try the case. <\/p>\n The motion also said attorneys have \u201cobserved serious mental health issues\u201d with Ikner that require time to understand. <\/p>\n \u201cMr. Ikner has complex co-morbid conditions that are relevant to statutory mitigation,\u201d the motion reads. \u201cThese conditions require time to investigate their unique interaction, and their impact on Mr. Ikner\u2019s life and behavior. This requires in-depth investigation into Mr. Ikner\u2019s childhood development.\u201d<\/p>\n This is not the first time Ikner\u2019s trial has been delayed. <\/p>\n He was set to stand trial in November 2025 before his previous attorney filed a request to withdraw from the case.
