{"id":375190,"date":"2026-08-19T02:10:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-19T02:10:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/375190\/"},"modified":"2026-08-19T02:10:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-19T02:10:14","slug":"oliver-gilbert-wins-democratic-primary-for-floridas-24th-congressional-district-jones-concedes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-fl\/375190\/","title":{"rendered":"Oliver Gilbert wins Democratic primary for Florida&#8217;s 24th Congressional District; Jones concedes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Miami-Dade County Commissioner Oliver Gilbert III has won the Democratic primary for Florida&#8217;s 24th Congressional District, putting him one step closer to succeeding longtime U.S. Rep. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/miami\/news\/florida-rep-frederica-wilson-not-seeking-reelection\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-invalid-url-rewritten-http=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Frederica Wilson<\/a>, according to projections.<\/p>\n<p>State Sen. Shevrin Jones conceded the race Tuesday night as he was trailing Gilbert by about 2 percentage points, before AP made a projection.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert defeated a crowded field of six other Democrats seeking the open seat, including Jones, former U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, former Miami-Dade County Commissioner Jean Monestime, physician and veteran Rudolph Moise, Marshall L. Davis Sr. and Roderick Vereen.<\/p>\n<p>Gilbert will face Republican T.E.
