News4JAX Insiders were asked to vote for the best one in the area, and their response was loud and clear: Pete\u2019s Bar took the title of JAXBest 2025 best dive bar. <\/p>\n
Voted over MVP\u2019s Sports, Rascal\u2019s Bar, and Sherwood\u2019s, Pete\u2019s Bar<\/a> is located at 117 First St. in Neptune Beach.<\/p>\n According to Visit Jacksonville,<\/a> the bar is one of the oldest in North Florida and was the first to \u201clegally\u201d open in Duval County following the 1933 repeal of Prohibition. <\/p>\n \u201cIn the 1920s, what is now Pete\u2019s Bar was known as Jensen\u2019s Market,\u201c the site reads. \u201cWhile the Jensen family no longer owns Pete\u2019s, not much else has changed.\u201d<\/p>\n Pete\u2019s is known for its annual \u201cPete\u2019s Giving\u201d block party celebration for Thanksgiving<\/a>.<\/p>\n The classic dive bar even grabbed the attention of novelist John Grisham, who wrote about the bar in his book, \u201cThe Brethren.\u201d <\/p>\n Pete\u2019s Bar is open daily from noon to 2 a.m. <\/p>\n For more information, check out Pete\u2019s Bar Neptune Beach on Facebook<\/a>.<\/p>\n A special thanks to our JAXBest sponsor, Farah & Farah!<\/p>\n
