The Miami Dolphins head into their second preseason game this weekend, facing the New York Giants at South Florida\u2019s Hard Rock Stadium, with several position battles ongoing and many players hoping to get the coaches\u2019 attention. The NFL mandates that teams drop their roster size from a preseason limit of 90 players down to the regular season\u2019s limit of 53 players after the third preseason game, giving end-of-roster players just 11 days to make their case for a roster spot.<\/p>\n

The Dolphins have a veteran pass rusher who seems buried on the depth chart, behind several younger players at a position that lacks depth. Edge rusher Cameron Goode is on the fourth team, according to the Dolphins\u2019 unofficial depth chart, and he has a battle in front of him if he wants to stay with Miami for a fifth season.<\/p>\n

The South Florida Sun Sentinel\u2019s Chris Perkins took a look at Goode\u2019s situation on Tuesday. In his article, he explained:<\/p>\n

Goode, who didn\u2019t get a snap with the starters in Tuesday\u2019s practice and has rarely run with starters the entire offseason, has seemingly had a good training camp. I\u2019ve seen him making plays in practice. Granted, it\u2019s almost always against backups, but he\u2019s been making plays.<\/p>\n

Yet on the depth chart Goode is listed behind starter Chop Robinson, injured veteran Clelin Ferrell and rookie seventh-round pick Max Llewellyn. On the other side of the defensive line there are edge rushers Josh Uche, Robert Beal Jr. and David Ojabo.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat we\u2019re looking for is someone to kind of take over,\u201d Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said of the edge rusher position, including backups. \u201cLine up the right way, play the right technique, set edges, have some good pass rushes, and I think we\u2019re still looking for that consistency \u2026 big-picture wise, I think just like we keep saying, and you\u2019re going to get bored of it, it\u2019s just who can consistently do the job over and over again.\u201d<\/p>\n

That last part, the consistency, might be Goode\u2019s undoing. But he can make plays from time to time.<\/p>\n
