ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. \u2014 A 37-year-old Orlando man was killed Tuesday evening in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Clarcona and Gilliam roads in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n
Troopers arrested 46-year-old Orlando resident Jason Salustro after witnesses reported seeing him flee the crash scene on foot.<\/p>\n
The crash happened about 7:23 p.m. as Salustro drove a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe south on Clarcona Road, FHP said. Near Gilliam Road, Salustro attempted to turn left and drove into the path of a northbound 1999 Honda Civic.<\/p>\n
The Tahoe\u2019s front-right side struck the front of the Civic, troopers said.<\/p>\n
The Civic driver was taken to AdventHealth Apopka Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. FHP said he was not wearing a seat belt. His name has not been released, pending notification of next of kin.<\/p>\n
Authorities said Salustro was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries.<\/p>\n
After the collision, witnesses called law enforcement and reported that Salustro had run from the scene. Orange County sheriff\u2019s deputies and state troopers searched the area and located him about a mile away, according to FHP.<\/p>\n
Salustro was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of a crash involving death and booked into the Orange County Jail.<\/p>\n
Clarcona Road near Gilliam Road was temporarily closed after the crash but later reopened. Trooper Gonzalez is investigating the crash, while Corporal Nettles is leading the homicide investigation.<\/p>\n
