A flight fills up, a passenger’s plans shift, or a cancellation creates space for someone willing to pay more.

Yet airlines have long treated a booking as something close to the end of the transaction. Miami-based TravelX is betting it should be the beginning of a new one, and investors are backing that vision.

The travel technology company closed its Series A after securing a substantial, undisclosed investment from Kaszek, with participation from Thayer Ventures. The deal brought TravelX’s total funding to $45 million, according to PhocusWire, and marked Kaszek’s first investment in aviation technology.

TravelX plans to use the capital to accelerate product development, expand its artificial intelligence platform and grow its global commercial presence. Its technology is designed to help airlines continue making decisions about their inventory after passengers have purchased their tickets.

“For decades, airlines have optimized the moment a ticket is sold. We have proven there are huge, untapped revenue opportunities that begin after the booking,” TravelX CEO Juan Pablo Lafosse commented.

The company’s platform analyzes changing demand, customer behavior, and operational conditions after a reservation is made. That could allow an airline to resell inventory, offer passengers greater flexibility, or capture more value from seats that would otherwise remain locked into their original transactions.

“Every day, millions of airline seats become more or less valuable as demand, operations and customer circumstances evolve. AI allows airlines to respond to those changes continuously, transforming static inventory into a dynamic commercial asset. We’re proud that Kaszek shares this vision and excited to build the future of airline commerce together,” Lafosse added.

✓

Check your inbox for a confirmation email.

Kaszek’s involvement gives the round particular relevance for South Florida. TravelX has offices in Miami, Buenos Aires, Madrid and Melbourne, positioning the company between the U.S., Latin America and other major aviation markets.

“Artificial intelligence is reshaping every major industry, and we believe aviation is another high-potential opportunity market to be redefined,” Kaszek partner Nicolas Berman commented.

“TravelX isn’t simply improving an existing process; its AI-native platform has the potential to fundamentally change how airlines monetize inventory, optimize their networks, and serve travelers,” Berman continued. “We are excited to partner with the TravelX team as they build what we believe can become a defining technology company in global aviation.”

TravelX originally attracted attention for applying blockchain technology to airline tickets, raising a $10 million seed round in 2022. Its pitch has since evolved toward AI-powered post-booking revenue management.

The company now works with carriers including Viva, Volaris, AirAsia, WestJet, GOL, Scoot and Cebu Pacific. Those relationships could help determine whether dynamic inventory can succeed amid the complexity of real airline operations.

Pictured above: TravelX founders L to R: Pablo Santillan, Chief Technology Officer; Juan Pablo Lafosse, Chief Executive Officer; Francisco Vigo, Chief Operating Officer.

READ MORE IN REFRESH MIAMI:

I am a Miami-based technology researcher and writer with a passion for sharing stories about the South Florida tech ecosystem.
