Located inside the historic Palais Royale building, the museum will transform a remarkable private collection into a colorful, immersive celebration of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr.

The new museum is located at 146 2nd Street North, near several of downtown St. Petersburg’s established museums, galleries, restaurants and entertainment destinations.

A Much Bigger Home for Beatlemania

Penny Lane previously operated from a small, second-floor gallery in downtown Dunedin, where the Suncoast Post reported that Beatlemania was alive and well in Dunedin. Although that location attracted thousands of visitors each year, its limited space meant that much of the collection had to remain in storage.

The new downtown St. Petersburg museum encompasses approximately 2,100 square feet—nearly four times the size of its former home. The larger layout allows organizers to display close to 1,000 pieces at a time from a collection that now includes more than 1,600 Beatles-related artifacts. Exhibits will also rotate, giving returning visitors opportunities to discover items that may not have been displayed during an earlier visit.

The museum’s new home is the Palais Royale, a historic building constructed in 1926. Its central location places Penny Lane within walking distance of several major cultural attractions, including The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, the Museum of the American Arts & Crafts Movement, the Florida Holocaust Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts.

Four Decades of Collecting Beatles History

The museum was founded in 2017 by Clearwater-area radiologist Dr. Robert Entel, whose fascination with The Beatles began when he was a teenager.

Entel’s collecting journey grew from small keepsakes discovered during time spent in London into an extensive assortment of instruments, clothing, records, toys, games, photographs, documents and unusual pieces connected to the world’s most influential rock band.

Over the years, the collection expanded well beyond traditional music memorabilia. Today, it includes items from the height of Beatlemania, rare promotional material, signed documents, vintage merchandise, stage-related pieces and clothing associated with members of the band.

The museum operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to preserve and share the music, culture and lasting legacy of The Beatles. The official museum describes itself as the only dedicated Beatles museum in the United States.

What Visitors Can Expect to See

Guests entering the new museum will find exhibits arranged more intentionally than they were at the smaller Dunedin location. Displays are expected to follow portions of The Beatles’ history chronologically while also grouping artifacts by theme and subject.

Among the featured items are:

Musical instruments and performance-related memorabilia
Signed photographs, records and historical documents
Vintage clothing and apparel
Beatles toys, dolls and board games from the 1960s
Gold-record awards and promotional pieces
A treasured pair of glasses once owned by John Lennon
A Beatles-themed pinball machine
A Yellow Submarine jukebox and street-facing installation
A drum kit played by Ringo Starr in a television commercial
Psychedelic artwork inspired by the band’s later years

A small stage near the museum’s entrance is expected to feature the Ringo Starr drum kit, immediately setting the mood for visitors beginning their journey through Beatles history.

The expanded facility will also include a children’s activity area, making the museum more welcoming to families and helping introduce younger generations to the music and story of the Fab Four.

A mechanical octopus and a Yellow Submarine installation will add playful, recognizable elements inspired by the group’s music and animated film history.

More Than a Collection of Memorabilia

The new Penny Lane Museum is designed to be more than a room filled with collectibles.

Professional curator Allison Holuban has been leading the exhibition design, while Creative Arts Unlimited of Pinellas Park was brought in to create displays and presentation areas. The company has also worked on attractions including the Tampa Bay History Center.

Museum organizers also hope to use QR codes to provide additional information about selected artifacts, allowing visitors to learn more about their origin and importance.

Plans for the facility include educational programs, guest speakers, special events and collaborations with regional arts and educational organizations. Potential partners mentioned by museum leadership include The Florida Orchestra, the University of South Florida’s music department and Creative Pinellas.

There are also plans to host intimate performances and Beatles tribute events in the building’s foyer, along with possible Saturday evening live-music programs in the future.

Why The Beatles Still Connect With New Generations

More than six decades after Beatlemania swept across America, the music of The Beatles continues to reach audiences who were not alive during the group’s original career.

Their impact extends beyond record sales and chart success. The band influenced popular music, recording technology, fashion, art, filmmaking and youth culture. Their songs remain familiar through streaming services, movies, television programs, tribute concerts and family record collections. That continued local interest has also inspired exhibitions such as the George Harrison exhibition at Selby Gardens.

That ability to cross generations is an important part of Penny Lane’s appeal. Some visitors will arrive with vivid memories of watching The Beatles on television in the 1960s. Others may know the group through parents, grandparents, contemporary artists or recent documentaries.

The museum offers both groups something valuable: longtime fans can reconnect with important memories, while younger visitors can see the objects and cultural environment that surrounded one of music history’s most important bands.

A New Addition to St. Petersburg’s Museum District

The museum’s relocation represents another notable addition to downtown St. Petersburg’s growing reputation as a Florida arts and cultural destination. The area’s museum scene continues to evolve, including expansion plans at downtown St. Pete’s Dalí Museum.

Visitors can potentially combine a stop at Penny Lane with other downtown museums, waterfront attractions, restaurants, shops and galleries. Its location may also make the museum more visible to tourists who would not have discovered the former upstairs location in Dunedin.

The Dunedin museum reportedly welcomed approximately 9,000 to 10,000 visitors annually despite its small size and somewhat hidden location. Museum leaders believe the larger, street-level St. Petersburg venue will make the collection more accessible and allow it to reach a much broader audience.

Penny Lane Beatles Museum Visitor Information

Scheduled opening date: Wednesday, August 5, 2026
Regular hours: Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission: $15 for visitors ages 8 and older
Address: Penny Lane Beatles Museum, 146 2nd Street North, St. Petersburg, FL 33701
Telephone: 727-281-8130
Website: Penny Lane Beatles Museum’s official website

The museum is a nonprofit organization, and admission revenue, donations, sponsorships and grants help support its exhibits, programs and continued operations.

Because opening schedules and visitor policies can change, guests planning a trip should confirm the latest hours and ticket availability through the museum’s official website.

A Magical Mystery Tour Close to Home

For Florida Beatles fans, the new Penny Lane Beatles Museum promises to be much more than a nostalgic roadside attraction.

It will provide an opportunity to stand within inches of rare objects connected to the band, discover unusual pieces of pop-culture history and share Beatles memories with friends and family.

Whether your favorite era is the matching-suit excitement of early Beatlemania, the colorful experimentation of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band or the mature songwriting of Abbey Road, Penny Lane is preparing to offer a magical mystery tour through the music, personalities and cultural legacy of four young musicians from Liverpool who changed the world.

Related Stories

Beatles fans across Florida have a new reason to make a day trip to downtown St. Petersburg.
