<\/a>VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. \u2014<\/p>\nA carjacking suspect was arrested on Florida\u2019s east coast after driving a stolen vehicle into oncoming traffic, with deputies crediting Flock license plate reader cameras for helping track him down. <\/p>\n
The Volusia County Sheriff\u2019s Office said Scott Taylor was apprehended after being recorded driving 137 mph during the chase. <\/p>\n
The same license plate reader technology used in Taylor\u2019s arrest is also in place on Florida\u2019s Gulf Coast, including in Cape Coral, where it has sparked mixed reactions from residents. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think we shouldn\u2019t have them anymore; I feel like we should take them down,\u201d said Erika Romero of Cape Coral. <\/p>\n
David Rose, another Cape Coral resident, shared a different perspective. \u201cI think it is good. We have to have a way to track these things,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
Privacy concerns remain a significant issue for many people along the Gulf Coast. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt definitely goes against our amendments when it comes to privacy. It is mass surveillance,\u201d Romero said. <\/p>\n
In Cape Coral, the license plate readers<\/a> have also been targeted by vandals.
